With jobs scarce these days, the dental industry is an exception.  There are many opportunities available for dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants.  These jobs have high compensation and the growth outlook is very good.

Dentistry is constantly changing with new technology.  People are becoming more and more aware of the fact the dental health plays a major part in the overall health of a persons body.  This means more and more people now understand how important it is to take care of your teeth.  There has been an increase in cosmetic dentistry over the last few years.  People realize that straighter and whiter teeth make a hug difference in the way they look.

A general dentist does a variety of treatments that involve examining the oral cavity, head and neck and diagnosing oral conditions.  They also restore and replace teeth that have been damaged by decay or trauma with fillings, crowns, implants or bridges.  There are many other procedures that dentist do to promote oral health as well as overall health.

Another way to get into the dental industry with actually becoming a dentist is to become either a dental hygienists or a dental assistant.  Hygienists are very important in creating healthy smiles.  They must graduate from an accredited dental hygiene program and get a license.  They are usually the one in charge of cleaning the teeth at regular office visits, as well as educating the patient on proper oral hygiene.  This is an interesting job that is constantly changing and has high growth potential.

Dental assistants help the dentist in various procedures.  They often work directly with patients, but may also have other duties such as scheduling appointments, billing, obtaining dental records and ordering needed supplies.  Part of the dental assistant’s job is usually to make the patient as comfortable as possible.  This area of dentistry also has a large upside for growth.
